How long has The Best Times been publishing?
In September 1982, The Best Times began as a two-month pilot program funded through a grant from the Older Americans Act and the state of Kansas. It was written, edited, assembled, and mailed by volunteers. After the two-month trial period, its popularity was obvious and the paper became a bi-monthly publication of Johnson County Human Services and Aging. It is currently published monthly, in full color.
What is the purpose of the paper?
The mission of The Best Times is: “A monthly newspaper provided for all Johnson County residents aged 60 and over, publishing articles that inform, challenge, support, entertain, and persuade.
How is The Best Times circulated?
The Best Times is mailed directly to Johnson County households with a family member 60 or older. The mailing list is updated twice each year from the Johnson County voter registration rolls, or individuals may request that their names be added. For families outside of Johnson County, there is a $12 annual subscription fee.
What is the current circulation of The Best Times?
The Best Times is mailed to 50,000 households. It is also available for pickup from libraries, senior centers, and multi-service centers. Readership is estimated at close to 70,000.
