Aging Information. Your first stop in accessing AAA services,
providing
information on aging issues, services, and resources over the phone or in person
by

Aging Publications. “Senior Directory,” “Explore Your Options,” “Guide to
Choosing a Nursing Home,” “Resource Guide for Seniors,” health insurance/

available to Johnson County residents age 60 and over
to keep you current on
aging
services, activities, and issues.
CARE (Client Assessment, Referral and Evaluation). Assessment and
referral
services, including Level II mental health evaluations, to explore
community-based
service options before admission to a nursing facility. (See “NURSING
HOMES.”)
Catch-a-Ride. Volunteers provide rides to medical appointments, shopping,
and
other destinations. (See “TRANSPORTATION”)
Family Caregiver Support. Information, assistance, and support for caregivers.

Geriatric Care Management. Work with older adults and their families to
assess
complex situations requiring coordination of many services.

Health Promotion. Fitness
programs, routine health screenings and nutrition education
classes are offered are offered at neighborhood nutrition centers and other
locations.

Home & Community-Based Services (HCBS). Services such as health care
attendant, emergency response, and adult day care for Medicaid-eligible frail
elderly.

Homemaker, Chore Programs. Assistance with the upkeep and cleanliness of
the
home, and shopping. Qualify by functional need.

Legal Services. Legal assistance with civil issues (housing, insurance,
power-of-attorney,
living wills, public benefits, consumer advocacy).

Nutrition Program. Eight
Senior
Neighborhood Centers serve nutritious meals five days
a week and offer
friendship, education, fitness, and socialization opportunities.
The CHAMPSS program offers senior meals at select Hy-Vee
locations. Volunteers deliver meals to homebound persons. (See “NUTRITION”)
Personal Care Program. Bathing, grooming, and personal care. Qualify by
functional need.

Respite Programs. In-home companions for older persons to relieve a
caregiver,
usually up to four hours per week. (See “RESPITE CARE”)
Senior Flexercise. A low-impact fitness class offered at some Senior
Neighborhood
Centers. (See
EXERCISE, HEALTH & WELLNESS”)
Senior Health Insurance Counseling for Kansas (SHICK). Trained volunteers
counsel older Kansans about health insurance, Medicare, Medigap, and the
Medicare
Prescription Drug Program. (See “INSURANCE”)
Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers participate in many programs including delivering
Meals-on-Wheels to homebound seniors, insurance counseling, volunteer driving
for
Catch-a-Ride, clerical assistance, and a variety of special events.
